Lang Remains Open to Future Green Party Leadership Bid

Ricarda Lang, the former federal chairwoman of Alliance 90/The Greens, has kept the possibility of returning to a senior role within her party’s future open. Speaking to the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” (noz), she stated that while she can envision it, she must first establish a sense of stability and security to ensure she does not lose herself again. She concluded by adding that whether and when this opportunity arises remains to be seen.

The 32-year-old Member of Parliament, who resigned in November 2024 following criticism regarding the direction of the Green party while in leadership, added to noz that she still possesses “many visions” and is far from finished with politics. However, she clarified that the aspiration of becoming Federal Chancellor was never something she harbored. “I am very happy with where I am right now” she added.

Lang criticized the current political climate in Berlin for needlessly discussing top-level personnel years before elections. She characterized the period after her departure as a “form of liberation” from the internal pressures and expectations that she had endured as party leader. She firmly dismissed any notion that she had reached or surpassed the peak of her political career.
