King Charles Plans Plea For American Unity Before US Congress

King Charles plans to use his speech before the US Congress on Tuesday to emphasize the enduring bond between the two nations. According to the published draft speech, Charles states that despite current disagreements between the US and Great Britain, “our two countries have repeatedly found ways to come together”.

In times of major global challenges, the script stresses that it is more vital than ever to jointly stand up for democratic values. During his address, the King is expected to call for the “reconciliation and renewal” of the US-UK partnership, while highlighting shared values such as freedom, equality, and tolerance.

Furthermore, Charles is expected to reference the Russia-Ukraine conflict, urging the defense of shared values and calling on NATO to support Ukraine. The manuscript reveals that he will explain to the US representatives that the transatlantic alliance is rooted in “generosity and the duty to foster compassion, strengthen peace, deepen mutual understanding, and respect people of all faiths and non-affiliates”.

His state visit for the British royal couple is set to last for four days and marks the first such visit since Queen Elizabeth II visited in 2007. Charles and Camilla arrived at a US Air Force base in Maryland on Monday and were subsequently welcomed at the White House by US President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania. During this reception, Charles was among other things presented with the White House beehive.
