Kiesewetter Demands Immediate Training of Ukrainians on Taurus Cruise Missiles

Roderich Kiesewetter, a CDU foreign‑policy spokesman, urges the German government to begin training Ukrainian soldiers on Taurus cruise missiles without delay. In an interview with the ”Welt”, he said that starting the Taurus training “is a political signal” that demonstrates deterrence and recognises Ukraine’s fight. He praised the chancellor for turning the missile from a mere symbol into a practical tool, arguing that the training itself would already send a clear message to Vladimir Putin that Germany is ready to defend against aggression and that democracies must not only be able to win wars but also want to do so when attacked.

Kiesewetter further called for the federal government to set a clear strategic objective for its support of Ukraine. He outlined two guiding principles: (1) Russia must recognize the right of its neighbours to exist, and (2) Ukraine must be able to defeat Russia on its own soil. He stressed that Ukraine should become Germany’s foremost foreign‑policy priority, noting that the United States has effectively downgraded Europe in its own priorities. “If Ukraine collapses or is forced into a coercive peace, the consequences will be grave; we risk becoming part of a Russian sphere of influence” he warned.
