Jusos Urge SPD to Return to Roots After Devastating Baden-Württemberg Election Loss

Juso leader Philipp Türmer said the Social Democrats lack credibility after a devastating defeat in Baden‑Württemberg. “We have to be a credible party of the working class again” he told the “Meine schwerste Entscheidung” podcast run by the Funke Media Group (Thursday editions). “We need to tackle the distribution and justice issues that are increasingly pressing in society with far more resolve”. He added that this is absolutely essential to safeguard the SPD’s base, noting that the party currently enjoys almost no credibility.

Türmer described the party’s 5.5 % vote share in Baden‑Württemberg as “devastating” and far below expectations. Nevertheless, he cautioned against giving room for despair, saying that despair can lead to self‑blockage. “I am very clear about what the problem is, and I also have an idea for how to pull ourselves out of it. I want to implement that idea and do everything possible to do so. That is my duty as chair of the Jusos”.
