January 2026 Agricultural Producer Prices Down 10.1% From 2025 With December Down 8.3% and November 5.7%

In January 2026, producer prices for agricultural goods were 10.1 % lower than in January 2025. Compared with the same month a year earlier, plant‑based products fell 11.9 %, while animal‑derived goods dropped 8.9 %. From December 2025 the overall index slipped 2.3 %, after a -8.3 % change in December and -5.7 % in November.

Within the plant sector, potato prices drove the decline: retail potatoes were 49.8 % cheaper than in January 2025, down from a -48.0 % change in December 2025 and a -45.6 % change in November 2025. Potato prices, however, rose 1.7 % from December to January 2026. Fruits saw a steep 25.3 % drop year‑on‑year, largely due to apple prices falling 26.9 %. Vegetables were slightly higher overall – up 1.8 % – with lettuce rising 14.4 % and mushrooms 3.4 %, while cabbage fell 24.1 %.

Grains slipped 16.7 % compared to January 2025. Commercial crops as a group were 4.7 % cheaper, and rapeseed down 9.1 %. Feed‑crop prices decreased 8.2 %. Wine, in contrast, was 1.4 % pricier than a year earlier.

Animal products fell 8.9 % year‑on‑year, mainly because milk prices dropped 23.5 % in January 2026. Milk prices were also 8.7 % lower than in December 2025. Eggs rose 15.4 % over the year. Animal prices themselves were 1.6 % higher than in January 2025. This uptick came from a 26.5 % rise for cattle, while pork prices fell 16.1 % (the same drop seen from December 2024 to December 2025). Poultry prices were 5.1 % higher, driven by an 12.9 % jump in other poultry (ducks and turkeys); chicken prices edged up only 0.2 %.
