Israel reports that it killed the influential Iranian senior official Ali Laridschani. Defence Minister Israel Katz said on Tuesday that Laridschani was the target of an air strike.
In a separate operation, Israeli forces disclosed that the commander of the paramilitary Basij group, Gholamreza Soleimani, was also killed. “Laridschani and the Basij commander were eliminated overnight” Katz told Israeli media during a briefing.
At first, Iran offered no confirmation. Laridschani had served for years under Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and as secretary of the Security Council he was considered one of Iran’s most powerful figures.
