The World Hunger Aid organization has sounded the alarm regarding the devastating impact of the Iran War on the supply situation for the population in Sudan, a country experiencing civil war. Mathias Mogge, the organization’s Secretary General and Chairman of the Board, told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” that since the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the outbreak of the Iran War, the costs of foodstuffs and, especially, fuel have risen sharply.
Mogge stated that for people in Sudan, it has become extremely difficult to support themselves given the “exploding prices”. He noted that the price of wheat on the Sudanese market has increased by 70 percent, with fuel prices rising by up to 80 percent in some cases.
According to the World Hunger Aid, 33.7 million people in the East African country are dependent on assistance, and 11.6 million have been forced to flee. Mogge described this situation to the noz as “the largest humanitarian crisis in the world”.
In preparation for the international Sudan conference scheduled in Berlin on April 15th, Mogge called upon world leaders to provide greater financial support for the African nation. He stressed that this aid should not be contingent upon any progress in the peace negotiations.
