Iranian state media reported on Tuesday that the country experienced nationwide attacks targeting its transportation infrastructure. Among the reported damages was an Israeli airstrike that struck a railway bridge in Kaschan, a central city within Iran, resulting in at least two fatalities. Further incidents were reported, including attacks on a motorway bridge near the Tabriz-Zanjan highway in the northwest, a railway bridge in Karadj in the north, and a train station in Mashhad. These strikes occurred shortly after the Israeli military had warned Iranians against using trains temporarily due to safety concerns. The Israeli military stated that it had concluded a “large-scale wave of attacks” in the preceding hour, which targeted “dozens of infrastructure facilities across several regions in Iran”. Separately, media reports suggested that the U.S. attacked military assets on Kharg Island, which is vital to Iran’s oil trade. These alleged attacks took place mere hours before the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump, who had threatened the destruction of bridges and power plants if Iran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping. Trump reiterated this ultimatum on his short-form communication platform, Truth Social, writing that “an entire civilization will perish tonight, never to return”. He added that while this might happen, a miracle could occur, noting that “47 years of blackmail, corruption, and death will finally end”.
