At the Weserstadion, Bremen endured an extended period of extra time without a goal and fell to the more efficient Hoffenheim side. The visitors took the lead just before half‑time when Alexander Prass struck from distance in the 44th minute. After the break, Wouter Burger was shown a red card in the 52nd minute following a VAR check. A few minutes later, Grischa Prömel scored for the TSG, doubling the advantage in the 54th minute. Bremen pressed harder for an equalizer afterwards, but the home club could not find the back of the net.
At Millerntor, it seemed at first that Leipzig might secure a home win. Yan Diomande gave RB the lead in the 66th minute with a deflected long‑range shot. St. Pauli increased pressure in the closing stages and was ultimately rewarded: after a foul by David Raum, Martijn Kaars converted the resulting penalty in the very last minute of added time to level the score.
