Hezbollah Launches Rocket Attack on Israel in Retaliation for Iran Leader's Death

In response to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the Lebanese Hezbollah militia fired rockets at Israel on the night of Monday. The Iran‑allied group said the attacks were retaliation for Khamenei’s death and for repeated Israeli aggressions. No injuries or damage were reported on the Israeli side.

Israeli forces quickly answered Hezbollah’s first rocket strike since November 2024 by bombarding militia positions throughout Lebanon. The military urged residents of at least 50 Lebanese towns to flee, telling them to keep a distance of at least one kilometre from the conflict zones.

At the same time, Iran continued its retaliation strikes across the region. That night an unmanned Iranian drone also struck a British military base on Cyprus. Prior to the attack, the United Kingdom, Germany and France had warned that they would not rule out “military defensive measures” against Iran.
