Gysi Calls Left Party Racism Allegations Absurd, Declares No More to Say

German left‑wing Bundestag member Gregor Gysi has rejected accusations of racism issued by the Federal Association of Migrant Left (Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Migrantische Linke, BAG).

In an interview with “Welt”, Gysi declared that “whoever knows a bit about my life and work understands how absurd the racism accusation against me is, so I cannot say more”. He offered to speak with the authors of the allegation and added, “Let’s see if they are interested”.

The charge came after Gysi criticised, in a podcast, Israeli‑related antisemitism voiced by newly joined left‑wing members with a specific migration background. The BAG responded by accusing him of reproducing a “racist threat scenario” and requested that he attend an anti‑racism training session “in a timely manner”.
