Andreas Audretsch, the deputy chairperson of the Green parliamentary group, criticized the ruling coalition parties for their indecisive response to the high energy prices. Audretsch stated to “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (Saturday editions) that Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) is losing control, pointing to escalating conflict between Katherina Reiche and Lars Klingbeil. This criticism followed sharp remarks by Economy Minister Katherina Reiche towards Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) on Friday. Audretsch argued that instead of chaos, there should be a clear crisis plan from the Chancellor and the Deputy Chancellor, noting that such a plan was absent. He described the situation as “miserable crisis management” adding that neither the CDU nor the SPD managed to agree on even the most obvious measures. The Green politician demanded that the “excess profits” of oil corporations be taxed, and further insisted on lowering the electricity tax for everyone. He also called for a nine-euro ticket for buses and trains, in addition to a speed limit on motorways. Audretsch concluded by asserting that action is urgently needed.
