Konstantin von Notz, the vice‑chair of the Greens’ parliamentary group, said in an interview with “Handelsblatt” that the current security climate demands a much tighter cooperation between European intelligence services.
He stressed that “we must coordinate, network and exchange information much more closely across Europe”. Von Notz criticised what he sees as an overly national‑state perspective, a dogmatic silo mentality and a chaotic security policy that can no longer be tolerated in the face of emerging threats.
To address this, he proposes the creation of a dedicated intelligence network he calls “Euro‑Eyes”. Under clear rule‑of‑law guidelines, the network would allow European agencies to collaborate on a trust‑based, joint footing, thereby significantly raising Germany’s and Europe’s security.
Von Notz also pointed to the changing geopolitical landscape, noting that the United States, “our most important and loyal ally to date, cannot be relied upon in its current state”. He urged European partners to equip themselves accordingly, highlighting the need to adapt to the new threats that have arisen.
