Greens Urge German Cartel Office to Intensify Gas Station Price Investigation

The Greens have asked Germany’s Federal Cartel Office to scrutinise the current fuel‑price spikes at German service stations more closely.
“Fuel prices will keep climbing. I fear this is the start of a price spiral” said Michael Kellner, the Greens’ energy‑policy spokesperson for the Bundestag, in an interview with the “Rheinische Post” on Wednesday. “It is the duty of the Cartel Office to determine whether these price jumps are justified” he added, recalling his former role as chief economic policy secretary.

The Federal Cartel Office has already, several years ago, established a market‑transparency unit that routinely monitors fuel prices.
