Greens Slam Coalition for Social Housing Planlessness

The Greens accuse the federal government of lack of planning in social housing. “When it comes to not‑for‑profit housing, the government has neither an overview nor a plan” said Hanna Steinmüller, the Greens’ spokesperson on construction policy, to “Tagesspiegel” on the Tuesday issue.

In a response to a Greens’ small parliamentary question, the government said it is currently looking at “various options” to promote the so‑called new not‑for‑profit residential model. According to the reply, no data exist on companies that have taken advantage of the scheme.

“This is not only a refusal to work, but an expression of political ignorance toward not‑for‑profit housing as a central instrument for affordable homes” Steinmüller criticized. She questions whether the government still intends to uphold the project. In the previous year, the not‑for‑profit housing model was reintroduced to increase social housing supply.
