The Green Youth demands to be involved in the upcoming government formation in Baden-Württemberg.
Speaking to the magazine “Stern”, their chairperson Luis Bobga said that it had been good practice during the campaign to “maximise everything on Cem” referring to Green Party leader Cem Özdemir. He added that now it is essential that the Green Youth is included in the negotiations, insisting that Baden-Württemberg should have a green-led state government rather than one that serves only Özdemir.
Bobga pointed to the contribution of the youth wing during the campaign as a key reason for the strong election result. “The success we achieved is also thanks to the Green Youth on the ground, working day and night” the 23‑year‑old asserted.
Looking ahead, Bobga expressed confidence that Tübingen Mayor Boris Palmer will not play any role in the new state government. He noted that Palmer is no longer a party member “for good reasons”. For the broader party, it is clear that Palmer will neither receive a ministerial portfolio nor an advisory position in Özdemir’s cabinet.
Regarding reports that Palmer had been harassed by Green Youth members at a party gathering in Stuttgart, Bobga said he was unaware of the incident but understood why Palmer is not welcome at Green party events. He emphasised that Palmer has repeatedly demonstrated that he does not belong to the Green family, and for that reason he should not look forward to such evenings.
