Green Party parliamentary group leader Katharina Dröge is calling for a nationwide speed limit in Germany. “A speed limit would be appropriate – the Federal Economy Minister, Katherina Reiche, should implement it now” she told RTL and ntv. “It would protect people from more traffic accidents and benefit climate protection”.
She also highlighted a further advantage when referring to the looming energy crisis and the shortage of gasoline in Germany, saying the speed limit would create a “triply positive effect”. The International Energy Agency warns that we could be heading toward one of the worst energy crises in decades. According to Dröge, a speed limit would help reduce consumption. She summed it up by calling the measure “very pragmatic”.
