Green Party Chair Accuses Trump of Nonsense Escalating NATO Tensions Over Iran

Franziska Brantner, chairwoman of the German Green Party, sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump after his latest speech, accusing him of “bashing against NATO allies” and “using foreign policy as a tool of arson”. She said the address was a clear manifestation of an escalation strategy that lacked planning and foresight.

Brantner argued that Trump’s statements about potentially “bombing a country back into the Stone Age” demonstrate a disregard for a responsible international order. “Those who openly fantasize about such actions are standing outside any constructive global framework” she told the daily’s editorial network. “Trump’s tirades are not a coherent strategy-they are an act of arson against diplomatic norms”.

The Greens leader also warned that the United States, under Trump, has ceased to be a reliable partner and has become a risk factor for the transatlantic alliance. “The partnership is not being maintained; it is being deliberately damaged” she said.

While bracketing NATO as a fundamental pillar of German defense, Brantner emphasized the necessity for Europe to develop the capacity for independent action. “A genuine European defence union is no longer an abstract goal but rather a security imperative” she noted, urging those who hesitate to recognize their shared responsibility for future consequences.

Trump’s remarks came in a televised speech in which he asserted that the U.S. would soon “achieve all its military objectives”. He warned of “extremely hard hits” on Iran in the next two to three weeks, adding that he would “bring them back to the Stone Age, where they belong”. Earlier, Trump had referred to NATO members as “cowards” and threatened the U.S. could exit the alliance.
