Green Leader Slams Colleagues Over Lack Of Leadership In Coalition Strife

Fritzonia Brantner, the leader of the Green Party, has accused the government of irresponsibility amid the coalition dispute between Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Reiche (CDU), and Federal Finance Minister Klingbeil (SPD). She stated during an interview with ARD’s “Bericht aus Berlin” on Sunday that Chancellor Merz (CDU) and Vice-Chancellor Klingbeil have a duty to lead, adding that neither appears “ready to lead”. Brantner characterized the situation as “catastrophic” for the country, emphasizing that leadership ultimately rests with the Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor. During this challenging time, she urged the government to implement relief measures for citizens and necessary reforms.

She questioned how comprehensive reform initiatives could succeed given the government’s inability to even agree on measures to offset the high costs of fuel and energy for consumers. “We have been waiting for a year now, and nothing has happened except disputes; this is irresponsible” she asserted.

To alleviate the burden on consumers, Brantner calls for a reduction in the electricity tax and the introduction of a windfall tax, which she believes would hold corporations accountable. Furthermore, she suggested that direct disbursement mechanisms for citizens who are in need could be considered.
