Facing a gloomier growth forecast for the German economy, Die Linke sharply criticized the black‑red economic policy and the use of funds from the special reserve.
“That the growth outlook had to be revised downward again is no accident; it is the result of political missteps by the federal government” said Left leader Ines Schwerdtner in an interview with the “Tagesspiegel”. From her perspective, the special reserve for infrastructure and climate protection remains far below its potential. Instead, money is often diverted to plug budget holes rather than to spark genuine new investment.
“As our export‑oriented model crumbles under collapsing markets and global crises, the government gives out a few tax gifts and hopes for a miracle” Schwerdtner added. “That is not a strategy; it is stagnation”. The Left politician calls for a fundamental economic realignment.
Key measures she proposes include a significant wage increase and effective action against soaring rents and food prices. An active industrial policy and a reform of the debt brake are also required. Schwerdtner demanded the dismissal of Reiches, arguing that Katherina Reiche is not suitable for this mammoth task because she lacks the will to make a difference for hard‑working people.
