The German Ministry of Defence is working to improve the internet connections on its government aircraft. Reports of outages and disruptions aboard the flight‑readiness fleet prompted the ministry to test a more powerful internet option that should provide a more reliable link, the magazine Spiegel reported.
The upgrade has been confirmed at the ministry. “We will test a more robust internet option from our current provider on one A350 in February and March” officials said. According to the provider, the better package offers a substantially higher data‑transfer rate and higher priority when establishing the satellite link, which should prevent temporary outages in the future.
In recent months the white‑painted aircraft of the flight‑readiness unit have repeatedly suffered internet failures. During a flight to India, Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his team were unable to access online information about the situation in Iran. Such blind flights are seen as a concern amid global crises.
