Germany Wins Late 2-1 Over Ghana in Stuttgart

The German national team opened its World‑Cup campaign at home against Ghana in Stuttgart with a 2-1 victory.

The match began with a dominant early phase from the German side, but they failed to convert that advantage into a decisive edge against the seemingly overwhelmed Ghanaians. It was only in the dying moments of the first half that Kai Havertz earned a penalty for Germany. He calmly converted it, putting Germany in the lead 1-0.

After the break, Germany slowly lost its rhythm. The Ghanaians, who had taken control, equalised in the 70th minute. Abdul Fatawu capitalised on a counter‑attack down the left side and, with a pass from Köhn, tipped the ball into the net for 1-1.

In the 88th minute, the substitution of Stuttgart‑player Deniz Undav earned the decisive goal, turning it 2-1. Sané passed the ball to the poised Undav after a chip from Goretzka, and Undav, under pressure, fired the ball with the right‑foot tip beneath the bar. Ghanaian goalkeeper Asare had no chance to stop it.
