The German federal government says a regime change in Iran is unlikely within roughly three weeks of the war that began between Iran, Israel and the United States. Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) made the statement on Tuesday night at the “Europe 2026” conference.
“I don’t believe it will happen” Wadephul said, referring to recent talks he had with his U.S. counterpart, Senator Marco Rubio. Rubio conveyed that the aim of the attacks is to destroy Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes in order to eliminate the threat to Israel – a new leadership in Tehran is not part of that goal.
“There will be no military solution in Iran” the CDU politician added. “And the idea of a controlled regime change is, in my view, purely hypothetical”.
