Nearly 8,000 asylum seekers have disappeared nationwide, according to the “Bild” (Monday edition), citing a survey of the state governments. The report states that at least 7,624 registered refugees in Germany are now considered “missing”.
The states with the highest numbers are:
– Hessen: 1,763 missing asylum seekers
– Baden‑Württemberg: 1,641 missing
– Brandenburg: 1,401 missing
The newspaper suggests that the individuals may have fled to other EU countries or returned to their home countries. In addition to the states mentioned above, “Bild” lists the following numbers:
– Rhineland‑Palatinat: 923
– Lower Saxony: 439
– Saxony‑Anhalt: 369
– North Rhine‑Westphalia: 262
– Schleswig‑Holstein: 190
– Bremen: 184
– Hamburg: 172
– Mecklenburg‑Western Pomerania: 98
– Saarland: 82
The situation in Berlin, Bavaria, and Saxony remains unclear, as these authorities have not yet systematically recorded departures. In Thuringia, however, roughly 100 such cases have been reported.
