Germany Moves to Ban Toxic Ingredients in E-Cigarettes Ahead of Health Overhaul

The federal government is planning a broad ban on certain ingredients in e‑cigarettes. Business Insider and Die Welt report that a draft amendment to the Tobacco Products Regulation is currently being negotiated between the relevant ministries. The proposal would prohibit 13 specific substances and cooling agents from use in e‑cigarettes.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture confirmed this Monday in response to a freedom‑of‑information request. “In addition to addictive nicotine, the aerosol from e‑cigarettes-the vapor that is inhaled-contains other health‑hazardous substances” the minister said. “We have therefore presented a change to the Tobacco Products Regulation with the aim that certain flavorings and cooling agents can no longer be used in e‑cigarettes”.
