According to a report in the “Rheinische Post” this Thursday, a German analysis of the current situation in the Middle East shows that the number of Germans in the region is higher than previously thought. Around 30 000 travelers have already registered on the “Krisenvorsorgeliste ELEFAND” and the written brief dated Tuesday night for the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag warns that the actual figure of German nationals in the area could be much larger.
The Brief notes that Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) coordinates with his colleagues in the region on a daily basis. It adds that the Foreign Office together with the relevant embassies and consulates is working around‑the‑clock to assist and evacuate German citizens from the region.
The German Embassy in Muscat, Oman, is scheduled to operate a special evacuation flight on Wednesday. This flight will first bring to Germany people who are especially vulnerable, such as the elderly, the ill, pregnant women and children. A second flight is already planned for Thursday, and further flights will be arranged for the following days, although their execution will depend on the evolving situation.
