Following the mission’s conclusion, the 15 soldiers made a stopover at Keflavik International Airport in Reykjavik, Iceland, before boarding a connecting flight to Copenhagen. Former US President Donald Trump’s prior threats of imposing punitive tariffs on eight European nations participating in the Greenland reconnaissance have injected a significant layer of political risk into the ongoing proceedings. Trump had previously denounced the deployment as creating a “very dangerous situation” while reiterating his long-standing and ultimately unsuccessful, ambition to acquire Greenland from Denmark, ostensibly to mitigate security concerns related to Chinese and Russian influence.
