The German tourism industry reports a sharp drop in demand for trips to the United States following reports of violent incidents involving U.S. immigration enforcement officials and plans to tighten entry requirements. Albin Loidl, president of the German Association of Travel Agencies (DRV), told the German newspaper “Welt am Sonntag” that pre‑bookings for U.S. travel are slipping in the double‑digit percentage range.
According to Loidl, uncertainty surrounds how U.S. entry rules will evolve, while concerns over domestic inflation also weigh on potential travellers. He added, “The current weakness in demand stems not only from the political and social situation in the United States but also from the question of whether an American vacation is still affordable”.
The German Foreign Office has warned travelers to exercise caution in the vicinity of protests following fatal gun attacks by ICE security personnel. The ministry has also updated its travel advisories to reflect the anticipated changes in U.S. border controls.
