The German Social Association (Sozialverband Deutschland) is calling for an equal number of women and men in all German parliaments.
In a statement to the newspapers of the media group Bayern, chairperson Michaela Engelmeier said that although gender equality is repeatedly highlighted in political discourse and even in the current coalition agreement, this claim is not reflected in the actual distribution of seats in parliament. She added that women remain underrepresented in German legislatures, particularly in the Bundestag.
The association therefore urges parties to adopt a parity law that guarantees the allocation of half of the seats to each gender. Politicians, as well as the CDU and SPD, have also voiced a need for stronger efforts toward parity in the planned electoral‑law reform.
