German Police Union warns of Iranian terror cells amid rising European security threat from new exodus wave

In light of the escalating tensions in the Middle East, the head of the German federal police union, Heiko Teggatz, warned of significant security risks stemming from a potential new wave of refugees moving from Iran to Europe.
Teggatz told “Handelsblatt” that supporters of the tyrannical regime might already be living in Europe and in Germany. He stressed that European and German security services must remain highly vigilant to prevent possible attacks from dormant extremist cells.

He emphasized that a situation similar to 2015-when nearly one million refugees crossed from Hungary through Austria into Germany-could never happen again. “An unchecked influx of thousands of people would pose a major security threat” the union leader said. “We must know exactly who is entering Europe or Germany”. Teggatz has already communicated this assessment to the federal chancellery.

Co‑chair of the police union for federal police and customs, Andreas Roßkopf, called for a coordinated European response to ensure safety. “From our perspective, there can be no unilateral national actions” Roßkopf said to “Handelsblatt”. He warned against the simplistic “re‑route” of asylum‑seekers to neighboring countries, a practice that had been observed in 2015.
