German Parties Warn Against Creating Deportation Police Based on US Model Accusing AfD of Imitating ICE

German politicians from the CDU, SPD and Greens accused the AfD of basing its migration policy on the controversial U.S. immigration authority ICE. Interior politician Marc Henrichmann (CDU) said in the Tuesday issue of “Handelsblatt” that, in light of several unexplained deaths, the party’s “unflinching glorification of Trump’s domestic policy” shows that parts of the AfD actually want an authoritarian regime that ultimately undermines everyone’s freedom. Henrichmann referred to the “keystone of the German rule‑of‑law state” that guarantees the inviolability of body and life.

SPD member Dirk Wiese sharply criticized the AfD’s ICE references. He told “Handelsblatt” that if the party truly believes it can dispense with people who have migration backgrounds and terrorise them in the same way as ICE, it would be best for its members to quickly complete an adult‑education course titled “How to care for yourself in old age”. Wiese spoke about the AfD’s “deportation fantasies” and its “racist, demeaning attitude”.

Green interior politician Marcel Emmerich warned that the ICE agency’s tactics-militarization, aggressive raids, lethal violence and systematic curbs on judicial oversight-are not a model for policing in a liberal democracy. He told “Handelsblatt” that the AfD’s demand for such measures in Germany “speaks volumes and illustrates the inhumane direction of its politics”.
