German nonbinary person sentenced to eight years for attacks on alleged far‑right protesters in Budapest

The court sentenced the non‑binary German individual Maja T. to eight years in prison for violent attacks against alleged right‑wing extremists in Budapest, announced Wednesday. T. was found guilty of life‑threatening bodily harm and membership in a criminal association.

The trial is part of the so‑called Budapest Complex, which concerns assaults carried out by left‑wing activists on suspected right‑wing extremists during the “Day of Honour” in Budapest in February 2023.

Hungary issued a European arrest warrant against T. in November 2023, and she was extradited in June 2024. The Federal Constitutional Court later ruled that the extradition was unlawful.
