Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan of the SPD sharply criticized the attack by the United States and Israel on Iran. “I have serious doubts that this attack was in line with international law” she told the news portal T‑Online. She expressed deep concern that international rules are losing their weight and stressed that it is essential for Germany to continue to rely on the international order and international law.
In Iran she said the Ministry cannot provide direct assistance to people on the ground because it does not cooperate with the regime or Iranian organizations. “Iran is not a partner country for development cooperation” she insisted. However, the ministry is increasing aid in Lebanon, where the recent conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has displaced many people. “We are now putting additional resources into Lebanon, alongside the humanitarian aid of the Foreign Office, so that people can receive better on‑site support” the minister added.
Despite talks between the Interior Ministry and the Afghan government, Alabali Radovan declined to engage with the Taliban. “I am against normalizing relations with the Taliban” she declared. Yet she emphasized that people should not be abandoned. For the international community, she warned, assistance must remain possible without legitimizing the Taliban.
