German Minister Katherina Reiche Says Heat Pump Subsidy Likely to Continue After 2029

Germany’s economy minister, Katherina Reiche of the CDU, made it clear that state subsidies for heat pumps will not be discontinued after 2029. “2029 merely marks the end of the current financial framework, which does not mean the end of the subsidy” she told the Sunday editions of the Funke Media Group’s newspapers, referring to the core points of the new heating law.

Reiche emphasized that heat pumps are already the dominant solution for new construction. In many existing buildings they will also be a preferred option, though it is not the sole choice available. “It is not within the remit of politics to dictate what is good or bad; that is the responsibility of individual citizens” she said.

The minister added that the government remains committed to strongly supporting all climate‑neutral heating systems. “This is good news for those planning investments, and therefore the market for heat pumps will continue to grow” she remarked.

When asked about potential legal concerns surrounding the new heating law, Reiche dismissed them, stating that the Building Modernisation Act would be “legally secure”.
