Oliver Blatt, the head of the leading association of statutory health insurance funds, predicts that contributions are set to stabilize provided the GKV contribution stabilization reform is implemented as previously announced. Speaking to T-Online, Blatt stated that the law proposed by Ms. Warken “has the potential to stabilize contributions”. He added that if the draft is adopted in its entirety, average contributions across all funds “could even drop-it is hardly believable, but even possible”.
However, he cautioned that the exact size of any potential reduction cannot be quantified, nor will it apply equally across every single health fund. Blatt explained that many insurance providers are legally required to rebuild reserves that they had needed to draw upon over recent years.
Blatt also strongly advised against allowing specialized interest groups to muddy the proposals. He urged everyone to pause and collaboratively determine what realistic actions are necessary to stabilize the finances of the statutory health insurance system. He stressed that inaction is not a viable alternative. He concluded by warning that following the concerns presented by these associations earlier in the week at the Ministry would lead to poor outcomes, leaving the contributors to bear the financial burden.
