Jörg Dittrich, president of the Zentralverband Deutsches Handwerk (ZDH), warned that the reforms to the Building Energy Act could go too far. He told the newspapers of the “Neuen Berliner Redaktionsgesellschaft” that many craft businesses would welcome it if support programmes remained unchanged and the law simply continued under a different name. At the same time he cautioned that uncertainty for companies and consumers must be avoided. “The back-and-forth over the Building Energy Act must end. A clear decision would bring much needed planning certainty and reliability” he added.
Dittrich also said he could envision deeper reforms. “If the government really followed through on its promise to lower electricity prices for everyone, then it might be possible to dial back the subsidies somewhat, because the heat pump and electric car would then become financially viable”.
