German Defence Commissioner Pushes for Bureaucracy Cutbacks to Speed Up Military Procurement

The Inspector General of the German Bundestag, Henning Otte (CDU), uses his new annual report to argue that the army must be relieved from “bureaucracy alien to the military”.
He stresses that the first priority is to make procurement processes faster. Otte also points out that supply kitchens should benefit from quicker approval procedures, and that decisions about mission tactics-which truly define the army-should be made more on the ground.
“That must be the guiding principle” he says.
For that reason he welcomes the fact that the leadership mentality now includes a focus on bureaucratic reduction, and notes that the minister has ordered an examination of where the ministry can free itself from administrative hurdles in order to liberate the armed forces.
