The Forsa poll, conducted for RTL and ntv, shows that the governing Union (CDU/CSU) remains slightly ahead of the AfD in voter favouritism. The Union sits at 26 %, while the AfD holds steady at 24 %. No other parties have changed positions: the SPD is at 14 %, the Greens at 12 %, the FDP and the BSW each at 3 %, and the Left at 11 %. Other parties together account for 7 %. The share of non‑voters and undecided voters stands at 25 %, still well above the 17.9 % of non‑voters recorded in the 2025 Bundestag election.
When it comes to perceived political competence, the Union leads again with 19 %. The AfD is seen as the party most capable of solving Germany’s problems by 11 % of respondents. The SPD receives 7 %, the Greens 6 %, and the Left 5 %. Half of all eligible voters (50 %) believe that no party can effectively address the country’s issues.
Satisfaction with the performance of Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) is low: only 25 % of Germans are satisfied, whereas 73 % are dissatisfied. These satisfaction levels have fluctuated between 23 % and 25 % over recent months. Only supporters of the CDU/CSU report a majority of satisfaction (65 %). Among supporters of other parties, dissatisfaction dominates-particularly pronounced among AfD supporters (97 %) and those of the Left (96 %).
The data on party preferences were collected between 3 and 9 March 2026 from 2,502 respondents. The survey on political competence and satisfaction with Merz’s work was conducted during the same period with 1,009 participants.
