The second cabinet meeting, led by Vice‑Chancellor Lars Klingbeil (SPD), ran just as the federal government reported, with no major deviations from the usual course.
Deputy government spokesperson Steffen Meyer described the atmosphere as “very, very focused and also marked by a strong team spirit” noting that it was indeed the case today. He added that this was the second cabinet session in the current legislature and that Mr Klingbeil had moderated it in a very calm and professional manner. According to Meyer, the meeting was an “intense, professional and collective exchange”.
When asked how Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s leadership style differs from that of his deputy, Meyer refused to elaborate. Instead he emphasized that a strong trust relationship has developed between the Chancellor and Vice‑Chancellor through their collaboration over the past year, a foundation that is “crucial” for the coalition. Meyer concluded that it is beneficial for the Chancellor to represent German interests abroad in China while the Vice‑Chancellor handles the day‑to‑day work in the cabinet.
