He continues to stress that the German Army’s future hinges on tight military cooperation with the United States. “The Americans possess capabilities in reconnaissance, logistics, leadership, and a broad range of weapons systems that we still lack” the army inspector, Generalleutnant Christian Freuding, told the “Handelsblatt” Thursday issue. “That’s why we need our shoulder‑to‑shoulder partnership with the USA, and we want this collaboration because we believe deterrence within the transatlantic alliance is the most effective way to preserve peace”.
Freuding said he maintains very good contact with the U.S. commander‑in‑chief of Army Forces in Europe and Africa. “We talk almost every week-professionally and with mutual trust” he added.
Regarding armaments, he is optimistic that the Army’s rearmament is moving in the right direction. For instance, all self‑propelled howitzers supplied to Ukraine will be replaced by the end of the year, and the procurement of main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles is progressing. “I would wish the pace were even faster, but I think we’ve crossed the lowest point” Freuding remarked.
He urged the defense industry to accelerate production even further. “Everyone is moving fast, but the defense sector is still on the acceleration track” he explained. Persistent challenges include delivery delays and problems integrating the new digital radio system: “We place orders and must receive what we agreed upon-both in quality and on schedule”.
