In 2025 Germany’s main airports recorded 207.2 million passengers, a 3.9 % increase over 2024 according to Destatis. The total remains 8.6 % below the pre‑COVID peak of 226.7 million passengers in 2019, the highest level ever. Domestic travel is still far below pre‑pandemic levels, while international traffic is steadily closing in on the 2019 benchmark.
International passenger traffic rose 4.1 % year on year to 195.3 million in 2025. Domestic flights, by contrast, were almost unchanged at 11.9 million passengers, a 0.3 % increase. This pattern-international traffic recovering faster than domestic-has been evident since the 2020 collapse. In 2025 domestic passengers were still 48.4 % lower than the 2019 figure, whereas international passengers were only 4.1 % below the pre‑COVID level.
Cargo traffic, however, has exceeded the pre‑pandemic level. In 2025, 4.75 million tonnes were moved through Germany’s main airports, up 1.7 % from 2024’s 4.67 million and 1.4 % above the 2019 volume of 4.68 million.
