Fuel Tax Cut Partially Impacts Gas Prices At Stations Says ADAC

According to the ADAC, the recent reduction in fuel taxes has only resulted in a partial decrease in prices at gas stations. The automobile club reported on Saturday that since May 1st, the mandated energy tax cut-intended to lower the energy tax by approximately 14 cents per liter-was supposedly in effect. Factoring in the value-added tax, consumers should have benefited from a total relief of 16.7 cents gross per liter; however, the actual decline in prices was only around 14 cents.

On May 1st, Super E10 saw its price drop by 13.7 cents, reaching €1.989 per liter, while diesel fell by 13.6 cents to €2.063 per liter. The ADAC insists that the full amount of the tax reduction must be transferred directly to consumers.

The association also noted that falling oil prices, since peaking on April 30th, should create additional scope for further price reductions. Furthermore, the ADAC believes the introduction of the “Austria Model” on April 1st has complicated price movements. This model allows oil corporations to raise prices only once a day at noon, though price decreases can occur at any time. Historically, prices for gasoline and diesel have risen sharply since the beginning of the Iran war in March, hitting all-time highs for diesel in particular.
