During the late‑night match of the 19th day in the Bundesliga, SC Freiburg defeated 1. FC Köln 2‑1.
The visitors took the early lead when Max Rosenfelder, on a cross from Freiburg, inadvertently sent the ball into his own net in the 10th minute. Freiburg answered swiftly; a minute later, Derry Scherhant levelled the score. As the first half approached its end, Freiburg swung the game decisively and went into the break with a narrow advantage-Igor Matanovic struck in the 44th minute.
After the intervals, Köln became more active, pulling several shots off the mark, yet they failed to convert clear chances. Freiburg remained patient, maintaining a solid defensive stance while delivering steady, precise shots from the front. The Breisgau side enjoyed a prime opportunity for a decision in the middle of the second half, but Matanovic’s penalty was poorly placed and was saved by Cologne’s keeper Marvin Schwäbe in the 66th minute.
In the closing stages both teams’ coaches opted for a more attacking approach. Cologne raised the pressure but, despite a few half‑second chances, could not break the deadlock. Freiburg defended their slim lead with confidence, denying any real threats, and finally extended the margin comfortably past the final whistle.
The result moves Freiburg up to seventh place in the table, while Köln remains in tenth.
