During the first Sunday match of the 23rd Bundesliga round, SC Freiburg won 2-1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
In the first half, Freiburg took the lead in the 38th minute when Matthias Ginter scored after a long throw‑in by Jürgen Treu. Diks unintentionally passed to Ginter, who, pressed by Scally, finished with a half‑side‑footed shot from five metres to put Freiburg ahead. Gladbach’s offense struggled to threaten the lead.
In the second half, Igor Matanovic extended Freiburg’s advantage in the 74th minute. After a midfield turnover, Grifo Eggestein delivered a sharp pass on the right, which goalkeeper Nicolas failed to clear, allowing Matanovic to convert safely. Gladbach’s reply came from Haris Tabakovic, who scored from a corner in the 85th minute, adding drama to the game, but Freiburg held on for the win.
The result moves Freiburg up to seventh place in the standings, while the Gladbach Stallions drop to fourteenth. Freiburg will travel to Frankfurt next Sunday, whereas Gladbach are scheduled to face Union Berlin the following day.
