Former SPD Boss Martin Schulz Defends Core Principles of Socialism for Germany's Future

Former SPD leader Martin Schulz believes that the era of social democracy in Germany is far from over. Addressing the WDR, he stated that the philosophy of social democracy is guided by principles, not by results from recent opinion polls. According to Schulz, the core belief is that wealth, whether within Germany, Europe, or globally, is distributed unjustly, necessitating a more equitable model of wealth sharing. He advised his party, and himself, to maintain a focus on justice, respect, and tolerance as the fundamental elements of their work, believing that doing so would eventually restore public trust.

While defending the party’s ideology, Schulz was careful to acknowledge that the world currently operates in “complicated times”. When discussing the economic climate, he attributed the rise in gas prices to what he described as the “insane decision” of an American president that attacked Iran, leading to the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement calling for truth and national strength, Schulz argued that European sovereignty is necessary to resist the influence of “this man in the White House” and push back against external pressures.
