Police in the United Kingdom arrested former Prince Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor on Thursday, according to several British media outlets. The Thames Valley Police confirmed the arrest without naming the individual. It was reported that a man in his sixties from Norfolk has been taken into custody on suspicion of abuse of office. The force also said it carried out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk. The suspect remains in police custody, and his name will not be released in line with national guidelines.
“After a thorough review, we have opened a case for alleged abuse of office” said a police spokesperson. “It is essential that we preserve the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with partners to examine this alleged offence”. The spokesperson acknowledged the high public interest in the matter and promised that updates would be provided “when the time is right”.
Andrew’s arrest coincides with his 66th birthday. He has been out of favor since close ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came to light. In November 2025, his brother, King Charles, stripped him of most of his honours and titles, including the princely title. Recent disclosures linked to the Epstein case have intensified pressure on Andrew, who has consistently denied all accusations of misconduct or any wrongdoing related to Epstein.
