Reports of massive misuse of funds from the federal special infrastructure account have led former CDU general secretary Mario Czaja to demand consequences.
In the Thursday edition of the “Bild” newspaper, Czaja urged CDU members of the Bundestag to lodge a complaint against the federal budget. “I hope that some principle‑faithful representatives of my party will see that even our own minimal targets are no longer being met and will seek a constitutional remedy before the Federal Constitutional Court” he said.
Czaja described the diversion of the special account as “dramatically worse than I had ever imagined”. He accused the federal government of spending instead of investing and of stalling urgent reforms, warning that the consequences will fall on future generations. “The political testament of Wolfgang Schäuble remains true: politicians should not always be given more money. They are not handling it responsibly enough” he added.
