The cabin crew union, UFO, has announced a two-day strike against Lufthansa. According to the union, the strike is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 15, at 12:01 AM, and conclude on Thursday, April 16, at 11:59 PM. All departures from Frankfurt and Munich airports operated by Deutsche Lufthansa AG are expected to be affected.
The root cause of the labor action is an unresolved dispute over a new collective bargaining agreement. The union stated that it perceives a lack of sufficient flexibility from the employer’s side. Harry Jaeger, UFO’s head of tariff policy, noted that the high participation rate observed last Friday demonstrated how committed the employees are to improving their working conditions. He criticized the employer’s stance, alleging that they have adopted a hardened position despite publicly claiming readiness to negotiate at any time.
A key part of the industrial action includes a demonstration planned for Frankfurt on Wednesday, coinciding with the celebration of Lufthansa’s 100th anniversary. Joachim Vázquez Bürger, the chair of UFO, indicated that Lufthansa has a particular responsibility in this context, especially given the current anniversary festivities.
