After 1. FC Köln’s drop into the Bundesliga’s relegation zone, the club announced that it is terminating the contract of head coach Lukas Kwasniok, effective immediately. The decision was reported by both “Kicker” and “Bild” on Sunday evening.

Kwasniok had already been in the dock for several months, as the team managed only two victories in the past five months. Even the recent match against Borussia Mönchengladbach ended in a 3‑3 draw, the lowest result for the club, and the club slipped to 16th place in the standings.
