Evonik is weighing potential recoup claims amid the U.S. tariff dispute.
Interim CFO Claus Rettig told the “Power and Policy” podcast by Politico, “We are, of course, considering whether we will pursue the claim. But we would rather wait first to see what the U.S. government itself does”.
Rettig said Evonik would likely seek a “smaller two‑digit million dollar amount”. The German chemical firm is only somewhat affected by U.S. duties because a large portion of its business is produced locally.
At the same time, he acknowledged that Evonik also benefits from competition. “We do have positive effects from the productions we have in the United States, which have now become weaker in light of Chinese competition” he explained.
Regardless of the specific tariff case, Evonik remains an advocate for open markets. The company will always favor “free world trade, free competition, open markets” said the interim CFO.
